Karen Blixen Museum

KAREN BLIXEN, GIRAFFE CENTRE, KAZURI & UTAMADUNI

Truly a must for all ‘Out of Africa’ fans, this visit includes a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, former home of the authoress of the book Out of Africa, where we immerse ourselves in her romantic life history, and learn some little-known facts about her life in Kenya. The beautiful gardens boast a spectacular view of the Ngong Hills, where Denis Finch- Hatton, Karen’s lover who died in a tragic airplane accident in Tsavo, lays buried.

The nearby Giraffe Centre is a sanctuary for the rare and protected Rothschild Giraffe, one of the 3 races of giraffe found in Kenya. One may touch, and feed by hand the beautiful creatures that live in the private reserve of the Giraffe Manor.

The tour ends with a visit to the Kazuri bead and pottery factory, a women’s self-help project renowned for its unique and innovative ceramic pottery and jewellery, and some shopping at Utamaduni Craft Shop.
